In O Lugar Onde eu Pertenço is a project that explores the spontaneous architecture in Portugal's suburban social neighbourhoods, more specifically Gondomar the place where I grew up, by acknowledging each family and individual's need for affirmation of their own home. Each family and person has the need, in a standardized neighbourhood, to individualize their own home. In this way, a urge emerges to expand the home to the exterior. Each family' s home grows and shapes itself according to its economic and aesthetic needs. Thus, giving the urban landscape a somewhat unusual or disorganised appearance, but for those who live there, a comfortable and welcoming place. The neighbourhood approaches the idea of home, of family, bringing a sense of well-being and comfort. Based on my personal experience, the displayed structure is a visual reference to the storerooms found at the back of these houses. The installation is accompanied by the cooking of a stew that spreads throughout the room, creating a nocturnal atmosphere, making reference to the moment one returns back and the smell of the neighbour' s dinner being prepared is spread throughout the street.
