Building on the research project Sobre brincadeiras de infância, the act of play is reclaimed as an essential gesture of everyday life. Through interviews and sharings with members of Poblenou community in Barcelona, focusing on their childhood games and their social impact, the exhibition explores how these experiences continue to resonate into adulthood. Reflecting on the idea of a playscape in the centre of Barcelona, the exhibition recreates playful atmospheres within the exhibition space, inviting visitors to rediscover play as a form of encounter, memory, and resistance. What unfolds is a relationship between memory and imagination, where gestures from childhood are retrieved as forms of expression, care, and play. The act of playing becomes an artistic practice, in which the time of childhood intersects with the present moment. Using different formats, the video presents excerpts from interviews and recorded conversations on this topic with people from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Primarily reflecting on the Portuguese context, it shares various experiences of playing, dreaming, and drawing. It also addresses social issues such as gender separation, education, rules, parenting, and sexual orientation, among others. The cards appearing throughout the video contain anonymous testimonials from people who wrote to me during the presentation of my performance Sobre as brincadeiras de infância, presented in collaboration with O Bastidor at ESAP, Porto, at Branda, Porto and during Segundas da Z at Galeria Zé dos Bois, Lisboa. The drawings that also appear throughout the video are from my childhood and my brother Rúben Pontes. It stems from an artistic investigation into childhood play, the impulse to play, and the ways in which playfulness can be reclaimed in adulthood. Through a series of interviews exploring personal games and their social impact, the project foregrounds the value of play as a meaningful and transformative gesture, both in childhood and beyond. Drawing on the concept of the playscape and a study of playgrounds in urban environments, the exhibition seeks to recreate a street-like atmosphere within the gallery space — inviting viewers to engage with play not as nostalgia, but as a living, collective experience. The film seeks to transpose and expand sensations usually experienced individually into a collective context.This term originated on an online forum when several users attempted to describe some feelings of well-being they experienced in their daily lives, such as when they had their hair cut or a book read in a calm tone. Previously, these sensations were described as mental orgasms or brain tingling and were often not taken seriously. However, since 2008, the production and demand of these relaxing videos have grown exponentially. These can provoke a sensation of comfort by listening to a varied sound spectrum: handling objects, manual contact with various materials, whispers, guided visualisations, among other approaches. Each family and person has the need, in a standardized neighbourhood, to individualize their own home. In this way, a urge emerges to expand the home to the exterior. Each family' s home grows and shapes itself according to its economic and aesthetic needs. Thus, giving the urban landscape a somewhat unusual or disorganised appearance, but for those who live there, a comfortable and welcoming place. The neighbourhood approaches the idea of home, of family, bringing a sense of well-being and comfort. Based on my personal experience, the displayed structure is a visual reference to the storerooms found at the back of these houses. That is, leaving one place to re-open another. Moving has not only physical consequences but emotional ones as well, whether due to family additions or economic necessities. Each house seems to represent different times and experiences that are entirely related to the emotional, social, and economic needs of the household. It is important to note that all these houses are located in the same place in the suburbs of the city of Porto - Gondomar.
